When Professor Jao was lecturing in Paris, he found copies of tombstone rubbings of the Tang and Song dynasties from the collection of the École française d’Extrême-Orient, and compiled them into this catalogue. He reorganised them chronologically and labelled each of the 388 pieces with an illustration and a caption.
